Travel Teams (Ancaster Little League)

PrintTravel Teams

Welcome to the Ancaster Little League Travel Teams Program.  Travel teams are rewarding and fun for everyone, but it does require a high level of commitment from players and parents.   Ancaster Little League offers Travel Teams for our T-Ball (7U-8U), Baseball (9U-16U) and Softball (9U-12U) age groups.

Tryouts & Selection Process:

Tryouts are scheduled in early September.   Players are evaluated in the areas of pitching, hitting, fielding, throwing, and running.

We typically have a large number of players that tryout every year.  Unfortunately, some players will not make a Travel Team for their particular level. If your child does not make the travel team, we strongly encourage them to continue with the house program and continue to participate in development clinics that are offered by the League.

Roster Announcements:

The final selection process will be completed by most teams the same day or within a few days after tryouts are complete. Due to every team being a little different regarding the amount of kids trying out, it may take certain teams a little longer than others.  It is the responsibility of the player’s parent/guardian to ensure that the league has been given the proper email/phone number at tryouts.

Travel Team Requirements – What to expect:

Ancaster Little League Travel Teams expectations will differ between each level and coach.   Most teams will practice 1-2 times per week and play in roughly 3- 6 tournaments.

Players that make a travel team are also required to play House League.   House League requirements may differ between teams and age groups.  It is the responsibility of the Parent/Guardian to fully understand their child’s House League requirements before committing to a Travel Team.   Players that fail to participate in their required house league commitments will be removed from their Travel Team.

Off-Season Training:

Following the September tryouts, training can begin right away for some teams.  Fall outdoor practices may be scheduled as long as weather and field conditions allow for it.   During winter months, teams will schedule indoor practices 1-2 times per week at either a gym or training facility.   Every team will have a different schedule depending on the coach and training facilities available.

Player Costs:

There are 2 costs parents should consider when committing to a Travel Team.

1. League Fees - There is a non-refundable $75 Travel Team Fee that is required to be paid within 2 days of committing to a team.  This $75 goes directly to the League to cover league-related expenses for teams.

2. Team Fees – Team fees are collected by the Head Coach or Team Treasurer and will be used to cover team-related fees such as rental of indoor facilities, tournaments, uniforms, equipment and other costs.   These costs will differ between teams and are ultimately determined by the Coach after completion of a team budget.   Estimated Team Fees range from $500-$2,000    Fundraising and sponsorship opportunities are also coach/team decisions, but are an effective way to raise team funds and reduce the Team Fees for players.

Uniforms:

Uniforms are standard for all of our Travel Teams.    Players will be fitted for uniforms in either December or January.

DISTRICT TOURNAMENT TEAMS:
District tournament teams are separate from Travel Teams.  Players that are accepted on a Travel Team are still required to tryout for a District Tournament Team.   Tryouts for District tournament teams are announced in the Spring as per Little League Rules.   For more information on District Tournament teams, please visit the District Teams section on the website.
